We all know that art has a tendency to imitate life and Demi Moore’s latest project – a film about Covid-19 – does just that. Romantic thriller Songbird is one of the first films that went into production in Los Angeles following the outbreak of coronavirus and is set two years into the future, where things have got slightly out of control.
When we catch up with Demi, who plays Piper Griffin in the film, she tells us she coped remarkably well with quarantine, but she’s aware that her privilege has a lot to do with that. “I know how fortunate I am,” she says.
That’s not to say that Demi, 57, has led a totally charmed existence. Yes, she’s had a hugely successful career in Hollywood, having starred in iconic films such as Ghost, Indecent Proposal and Striptease, but her personal life hasn’t all been plain sailing and she’s suffered her fair share of heartbreak over the years.
When her marriage to Bruce Willis ended after 11 years in 1998, Demi began a high-profile romance with actor Ashton Kutcher, who was 15 years her junior. Sadly, this union also ended in divorce in 2013 and Demi has spoken out about her battle with drink and drugs during that period. In particular, she’s opened up about the tension that her addiction caused between her and her daughters with Bruce – Rumer, 32, Scout, 29, and Tallulah, 26.
But these days, Demi’s life seems to be back on track and she is closer to her daughters than ever, having quarantined with them (and Bruce!) at her home in Idaho during lockdown.
