Having been in showbiz for over 40 years, Cheryl Baker is used to the highs and lows of the industry. Most well-known for winning the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest as a member of popband Bucks Fizz, Cheryl is still singing in the spin-off group, The Fizz, with bandmates Jay Aston and Mike Nolan.
Naturally, their usual gigging work has been pretty much non-existent over the last year, but the singer is upbeat and in the middle of a pamper session when we catch up. “I’m just soaking my nails,” she laughs.
Despite her jovial nature, the star, who also competed on Dancing On Ice in 2018, explains how detrimental the coronavirus pandemic has been on her and her family, and admits the financial effects have been “ridiculously hard”.
A silver lining for Cheryl though, is spending lots of quality time with her bass player hubby Steve and their 26-year-old twin daughters Kyla and Natalie.
Here, the music icon opens up about the hardships of being a popstar during lockdown and reflects on winning Eurovision all those years ago...
