The Heir To The Throne
STARDUST INDIA|STARDUST OCTOBER 2016

Since his entry into the industry, VARUN DHAWAN has been riding high. Right from Student Of The Year to Dishoom, his success streak is evident. This lad has totally understood the business and so, managed to maintain a balance between potboilers and commercial films. When you meet him for a conversation, he makes sure he answers each question with simplicity, and without the diplomatic mask which actors generally wear. One sunny afternoon, at the Dhawans’ abode, Shravan Shah met the young actor who was shuffling his busy schedule, for a quick tête-àtête about his filmy outings and media spotting.

The Heir To The Throne

Dilwale was your first ensemble cast film, how different was the feel?

It didn’t make me feel very different because at the end of the day, I had done Student Of The Year too, which was on similar lines, in terms of the cast. The difference here was that I was working with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, which was superb. It was so much fun being directed by Rohit Shetty, being on the sets of Dilwale with them, marketing the film with Shah Rukh sir…all in all it was a very enriching experience and I learnt quite a bit on that set.

Working on sets with a senior superstar, what equation did you build with him?

Eventually everyone comes down to the basics, the director remains the director and the actor remains the actor, and it becomes just about sharing screen space. The whole thing lasted for few days and eventually, we were all just doing our work. It was very normal.

When a script comes your way, what do you look for? What is the thought process that goes into it?
