Tom Selleck - WALKING AWAY FROM FAME

THE REVERED STAR AND DEDICATED FAMILY MAN IS LOOKING FORWARD TO SLOWING DOWN AND ENJOYING LIFE ON HIS 65-ACRE RANCH.

IN 1988, at the height of Tom Selleck’s Magnum, P.I. popularity, the veteran actor made a shocking decision. He quit Hollywood and retreated to his sprawling ranch outside L.A. to focus on his family. “I was tired,” he said of sacrificing his personal happiness while working 90 hours a week on the hit show.

“And I wanted a three-dimensional life because I didn’t have one.”

It’s something the 75-year-old isn’t afraid to do again now — for good. An insider tells Star Tom’s thinking of wrapping up his 10-year run on his successful CBS cop series, Blue Bloods, to prioritize family over fame. “At his age, Tom wants more time to enjoy all the outdoorsy things he likes to do on the ranch,” says a source close to the star. “And he wants to spend more time with his family.” (He has a 54-year-old son, Kevin Shepard, with first wife Jacqueline Ray, while he and his wife of 32 years, Jillie Mack, are parents to 31-year-old Hannah.) “Tom has more than enough money, and he’s not attached to fame and the trappings that go along with it,” the insider adds. “So he’s thinking about stepping away once and for all.”

DOWN-TO-EARTH

The famously mustachioed star has never been your typical celebrity. While he counts A-listers like Gene Hackman, Richard Gere and Blue Bloods costar Donnie Wahlberg among his close friends, he’s a homebody at heart. “He’s not into big parties,” says the insider. “He’s a low-key kind of guy.”
