An organ transplant is a life-changing occurrence. The process calls for a celebration after getting through the long waiting list and finding a match. But for Moroka patriarch Kabisi (Mpho J Molepo), receiving a life-saving kidney in July continues to cause him sleepless nights.
He recently discovered that his new kidney was sourced from the illegal red market. What’s more disheartening is that the involuntary donor Tamryn (Danica Jones) was killed during the procedure, which was more organ theft than donation. Although Kabisi’s wife Tshidi (Letoya Makhene) was aware of Tamryn’s unfortunate demise, she still bought the kidney for a lot of cash to save her husband’s life.
“Kabisi’s health was deteriorating, and Tshidi couldn’t bear to lose him,” explains Letoya, whose character’s marriage to Kabisi begins to crumble when he has nightmares of Tamryn. “He starts seeing Tamryn in his dreams and he wakes up feeling very unsettled. Kabisi resents Tshidi for placing him in this predicament. Consequentially, their love is on the line,” adds the actress, saying that Tshidi is desperate to make amends and have her husband eating from the palm of her hands again.
MARITAL MAYHEM
It’s clear that Tshidi and Kabisi’s union is falling apart. He avoids speaking to her at every turn, and when it comes to the bedroom, Kabisi refuses to be intimate with Tshidi. “In the past, she has always been able to use the art of seduction to soften Kabisi. At the moment, things are beyond tense between them,” says Letoya. Kabisi seemingly has one foot out the marital door already.
