KAREN GEE DISCUSSES HOW SHE STARTED HER SUCCESSFUL LABEL AND DRESSING ROYALTY

Since bursting onto the fashion scene in 2013, Karen Gee has dressed everyone from Aussie TV stars to politicians – and even a member of the British royal family! But when the mum-of-five launched her namesake label with no experience eight years ago, Gee admits she couldn’t even sew and everyone told her it was going to fail.

“[The label] started as an idea I was incredibly passionate about, but I was told by so many people that I shouldn’t waste my time,” the designer tells WHO.

What Gee lacked in technical experience, she more than made up for in grit, determination and the belief she could empower women by helping them feel their most beautiful in her signature sleek designs.

“Deep in my heart I knew this is what I was meant to do,” she says. “So step by step I grew – always taking two steps forward, one step back – to create and introduce something in the world of fashion that was unique.”

What inspired you to start your label?

My love of timeless fashion combined with my own sense of style. I love classic and elegantly tailored garments, which can be hard to come by but they suit every body shape. I knew if I could make them, women would respond.
