Ugadi: The word word 'ugadi' is a combination of two words-'yuga', which means 'age', and 'adi', which means 'beginning'. On this day, people celebrate the beginning of a new year by cleaning their homes, wearing new clothes and going to the temple. Observed annually in the month of April, this festival is celebrated by cooking delicious delicacies including Ugadi pachadi, which is a mixture of six different flavours-sweet, sour, salty, pungent, spicy and bitter. These signify that life is a mixture of happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, fear and surprise.
