After Independence, Telangana was merged with Andhra Pradesh in 1956.
From 1969 widespread protests for a separate state from Andhra Pradesh broke out in Telangana region. On the 2nd of June 2014, Telangana was split from Andhra Pradesh and declared as a separate state, becoming the 29th state in India.
Telangana is surrounded by Chhattisgarh and Odisha in Northeast, Andhra Pradesh in the south, Karnataka in the Southwest and Maharashtra in the North. Hyderabad will remain the capital city for Telangana for the next ten years.
