THE MATTER OF CONCERN: A resident of Koramangala ordered a pizza through a food delivery app, ended up losing ₹95000 in an online scam.
HOW FRAUD TOOK PLACE? A few days back on December 01, 2019, around 1:30 pm, a person in Bengaluru's Koramangala ordered a pizza online through a well-known food delivery app. According to the police, even after an hour of waiting, his order had not been delivered following which he looked up the number for the app's customer care service.
When he called on that number, he was reportedly told by the man on the other end that the restaurant is not accepting any new orders and his refund would be initiated. For that he must click on a link in the message that he would receive on his phone after this call. If reports to be believed, the fraudster also asked for the order amount, his UPI ID to which the refund was supposed to be credited and a contact number linked to that UPI ID.
Not realizing that he was speaking to a fraudster masquerading as a customer care executive, he did as he was told. Within minutes, ₹45,000 got deducted from one of his bank accounts and before he could transfer the remaining amount to a different account, another ₹50,000 got deducted.

1. Always check whether the order is accepted by the restaurant or not? Whenever you order food online, irrespective of your payment mode (COD or prepaid), make sure to check whether the restaurant has accepted your order or not.
