Meduza are a trio of producers from Italy – Luca de Gregorio, Mattia Vitale and Simone Giani – whose collaboration with Goodboys, Piece of Your Heart, earned them both Best Dance Song and Breakthrough Artist of the Year International Dance Music Awards. The song went on to hit number 2 in the UK singles chart and was nominated for a Best Dance Recording Grammy this year. Second single Lose Control (with Becky Hill and Goodboys) was also a hit around the world and the trio have remixed everyone from Friendly Fires (the track Heaven Let Me In) to Lifelike and Kris Menace (with Discopolis 2.0). Mattia Vitale is on hand to be your 15 question masterer…
1 How did Meduza get together?
Mattia Vitale: “Luca and Simone started working together on some different projects around ten years ago, and then I met them some years later. We worked on a few things over the years but the Meduza project really came together when we were in the studio producing tracks like Piece of Your Heart. We’ve all really loved music since we were young and being able to join the industry as a full-time career has been a dream come true.”
2 What would you say is your overall philosophy or approach when it comes to music production?
MV: “When we approach our music, the most important thing that we would first consider is the emotion. Regardless of whether we are playing, recording, or producing, we follow it without any compromise. Our musical background is fundamental above all because each of the three of us had a very different upbringing, but we all still believe that emotion carries the music.”
