Manpower without unity is not a strength unless it is harmonised and united properly; then it becomes a spiritual power.
Patel's life story is an example of insurmountable will -power , sincerity, and commitment. His quintessential character speaks abound of his self-made persona. He first established himself as a lawyer and then as a freedom fighter and nation builder amidst contrasting circumstances. He was born in the influential Patidar community on 31st October, 1875. Here are some streaks reflected in a (virtually crafted) candid conversation with Sardar Patel, who is well-known as the Iron man of India.
Interviewer: Sir, tell us something about your tender age and your higher studies– we heard that you completed the study of law much before the stipulated time?
Sardar: I completed my early schooling in Gujarat and decided to study law in London. The sudden and untimely demise of my father led the family into crisis in terms of finances. I put in my earnest efforts in studying for the law exam and resolved to save for the trip to England for study purposes. I was tough on myself and borrowed books from lawyers. I finally managed to finish my LLB from Middle Temple, England in 2.5 years and returned to India. My practice flourished. But, to tell you the truth, besides this success in my career, there was always an inner desire to do something for the society and leave a lasting legacy.
Interviewer: Sir, people always address you as the iron man of India. Does this correlate to your physical self or do you think you have the metal in yourself?
