Crafting A Niche For Herself

CHOOSE a job you love and you will never have to work another day. A very true saying because if you can find that passion in life and manage to turn it into a career, you are not only very lucky but also fulfilled.

One woman who has managed to do just that is Sarah James, but it hasn’t been without some sacrifice. Try getting a job at eight months pregnant, convincing them that this little life inside of you won’t get in the way and then proving it by starting the new job two weeks after giving birth!

A little crazy perhaps but for Sarah it was just how it had to be, as she tells me from her home/office on the edge of the moor: “After years of moving around the country, my husband and I finally settled on living in Bovey Tracey and at the same time the Devon Guild of Craftsmen were looking for someone to organise and run the craft fair.

“The interview was the same day as my moving day so it all felt rather serendipitous. I entered the interview room covered in a large coat and scarves so they wouldn’t see my burgeoning belly and somehow got the job. I then had the task of reassuring them that my impending motherhood wouldn’t get in the way! By some miracle it didn’t, but it was challenging at times and I had to dig deep and get on with it.”
