A Devon garden centre business has had a change of name after more than 50 years, writes SUE CADE.
‘OTTER’ is synonymous in Devon with garden centres (as well as a river, beer and an inn or two). Very much a familyrun business, Otter has been growing and selling plants for more than half a century.
But when Marilyn and Malcolm White bought their plot of land in Ottery St Mary in 1964, little did they realise what they had started; there are now five garden centres: three in Devon, one in Somerset and another in Hampshire. Many customers have been stocking their gardens with Otter plants for decades.
