People change, circumstances change, but God never changes. And he is always able to bring goodness out of evil.
James 1:16-17 says, “Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
When I first joined Kensington Temple in 1990, I had come from an Anglican background and I noticed there wasn’t much liturgy here. However, I did notice one common preacher/congregation interaction that originated from our African brethren:
Preacher: “God is good!” KT congregation: “All the time!” Preacher: “All the time” KT congregation: “God is good!”
Simple? Yes. But also profound. For it is absolutely true to say that God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. No matter what is going on, God remains at the total zenith of his goodness.
James warns us not to be deceived. The word translated ‘deceived’ comes from the Greek word ‘planetes’, meaning ‘a wanderer’ or, in verb form, to wander. As you might have guessed, it is where we get the English word ‘planet’ from.
