Darling! Of the Masses

THE BEGINNING...

Born in the town of Aluva, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, Dileep went on to finish schooling and pursue a degree in History. This was when his attention turned towards mimicry and after lending his voice to a few comic albums, he started his career at the famous Kalabhavan, as a mimicry artist. This path eventually lead him to the small screen and he began performing for a comedy show on a famous TV channel. One leading to another, he next began working as an assistant director to the veteran director Kamal and eventually started appearing in minor characters and small scenes with his first appearance being in Kamal’s 1992 movie Ennodu Ishtam Koodamo. After Kamal began recommending his name to other directors, Sunil gave him a role in his movie and Dileep was announced to the world of Mollywood. After some initial lukewarm responses for his roles, Dileep came to be known as a bankable actor with the 1996 movie Sallapam, which gave him a huge break. The 90’s saw Dileep going from strength to strength and by the turn of the millennium, he had notched up quite a few hits and became a noteworthy actor.
