Named after a twisty Italian mountain pass, Alfa Romeo’s first SUV aims to show how the type really should handle.
FIRST the bad news. Alfa Romeo has axed what might have been one of the most glamorous load luggers ever built – the Sportwagon version of the gorgeous Giulia saloon.
It means that a potential dynasty of elegant sporting estates, founded by the 156 and 159, has come to a premature end.
The good news – albeit bittersweet – is that the Sportswagon was killed off to avoid competing with the forthcoming Stelvio SUV, so Alfa fans needing extra cubic capacity of another kind can check out the new arrival instead.
Sales of SUVs and closely related crossovers are booming and, usually being on the tall side, good handling is hard to guarantee.
