Suranne Jones and Bertie carvel return for a repeat prescription of revenge and rivalry in doctor Foster.
In 2015, BBC1’s psychological thriller Doctor Foster gripped 10 million viewers, who were glued to every twist and turn as GP Gemma Foster’s life spiralled out of control when she learned her husband was cheating on her.
But despite the rich subject matter of a woman scorned, Suranne Jones, who played the vengeful medic, says she was surprised by the drama’s outstanding success.
‘Before the first series, I said to my husband [Laurence Akers], “Do people really want to watch a relationship fall apart?”’ explains Jones, who won a Bafta for her performance.
‘I didn’t know that the British public would want to watch something that uncomfortable. Little did I know that they like uncomfortable.’
