Former Frasier star Kelsey Grammer plays a dad who walked out on his family
New Comedy
Like Father Available Friday 3 August, NetflixKelsey Grammer will, of course, always be best known as Frasier Crane. He played the uptight psychiatrist for nine years in Cheers and then for another 11 seasons in its hit spin-off series Frasier.
The role earned him numerous awards, including four Emmys, but there’s more to the actor than playing the pompous but lovable radio star. After Frasier ended, Grammer won a Golden Globe for starring as the fictional mayor of Chicago in the drama Boss and he’s been voicing Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons since 1990. His production company has also been behind several successful series, such as Medium.
BEHIND THE LAUGHTER
Off-screen, Grammer’s life has, by turns, been tragic and tumultuous. When he was 13, his father was shot dead by a stranger and seven years later, in 1975, his 18-year-old younger sister, Karen, was abducted, raped and murdered.
