Billie Piper burst on to the scene in 1998 as a fresh-faced 15-year old with her catchy pop hit Because We Want To, before turning her attentions to acting, playing plucky assistant Rose Tyler in BBC1’s Doctor Who, mysterious Belle in ITV2’s Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Lily Frankenstein in Sky Atlantic’s Penny Dreadful.
All of that kept her firmly in the media spotlight – as did her high-profile marriages to presenter and radio DJ Chris Evans and fellow actor Laurence Fox – so, in some ways, Piper’s latest role in Sky Atlantic’s drama I Hate Suzie is a case of art imitating life.
In the eight-part series, which Piper co-created and co-produced with Secret Diary of a Call Girl writer Lucy Prebble, she plays Suzie Pickles, a former child star-turned actor whose whole world is turned upside down when her phone is hacked and compromising photos of her are leaked online.
