England boss Gareth Southgate joins Bear Grylls to tackle an extreme adventure
This Summer, Gareth Southgate did the impossible: he made a nation believe England could actually win the World Cup again. As the Three Lions coach, he became a national hero and the country fell in love with his wise words and waistcoats.
This week, the 48-year-old attempts another big challenge as he joins Bear Grylls for a survival expedition on Dartmoor – a task that includes jumping out of helicopters, hanging off high wires and abseiling cliffs. Here, he tells us why he took the plunge…
Why did you want to take part?
It was an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone. We’re always pushing for different experiences and I knew that going on this expedition with Bear would certainly challenge me. But also to get away from the day job, be out in the countryside and away from things with my phone switched off.
