A space crew embarks on a horror-stricken journey in a new Netflix drama from George RR Martin
George RR Martin is famous for the epic fantasy novels that inspired hit Sky Atlantic series Game of Thrones, but before he created the world of Westeros, he began his writing career as a sci-fi author.
Now, Netflix has turned one of his early novellas into a thrilling 10-part series that Martin himself has described as ‘Psycho in space’.
Set in 2093, on the eve of Earth’s destruction, the drama follows a crew of scientists who embark upon a journey into deep space aboard the Nightflyer, the most advanced ship in the solar system.
Their mission is to make contact with an alien species that holds the knowledge to save mankind from becoming extinct.
After decades of sending messages to the life form – known as the Volcryn – in a bid to uncover technology that could save the human race, no response has been received. So, in a last-ditch attempt to make contact, the Nightflyer has set off to seek them out.
