Ever since she was young, comedian Sue Perkins has dreamed of visiting Tokyo. Now, in her new travelogue, she gets the chance to spend three weeks getting a taste of the real Japan.
That means trying sumo wrestling, meeting a family who live with robots and witnessing ‘Hell Camp’, a boot camp where businessmen are sent to become managers.
We caught up with her to find out what’s in store…
TOKYO TIME
‘Tokyo feels like a city from the future where technology is creating a new way to be human. Everything is so ordered. There’s no litter or fighting or beer and kebabs being thrown everywhere. Although there are millions of people, everyone is going about their business in an ordered, respectful way. It’s one of the richest, most successful cities in the world, but people work longer hours, marriage rates are down and the population is shrinking.’
