LIFE AND BIRTH

NEW TUESDAY / BBC1 / 8PM (SCOTLAND, 10.45PM) / EP 1 of 6 / FACTUAL

Ever wondered what it really takes to deliver Britain’s next generation of babies?

That’s the question at the heart of BBC1’s Life and Birth, a new documentary series given unprecedented access to three of Birmingham’s NHS maternity hospitals to bring us extraordinary stories from all stages of pregnancy.

In the opening episode of the six-parter, we meet Channelle Hylton-Taylor, who last year let cameras chart the arrival of her baby.

No longer in a relationship with her baby’s father, Channelle gave up her career as a DJ to move back in with her mum, Barbara Hylton-Walker, who she describes as her ‘BFF’.

Channelle was keen to have an intervention-free birth but with a larger-than-average baby overdue, doctors decided to induce, and her mum was by her side throughout the 15-hour labour.
