Gary Windass is in Weatherfield General for the umpteenth time, having been struck by a car while saving the life of ex-girlfriend Sarah. He’s nursing one hell of a headache, and not because his bonce hit the bonnet. Sarah now knows that he murdered Rick Neelan. One word from her, and he’s straight off to the big house.

‘There are times when Gary thinks he can get away with anything,’ says Mikey North, who plays him, ‘but then he has paranoid moments where he thinks it’s all going to catch up with him.’
