The bickering between Anne Lister and her younger sister Marian is one of the many joys of BBCi's hit period drama Gentleman Jack.

But whether the siblings are debating the goings-on in Halifax or pondering on domestic matters at their home, Shibden Hall, the love that spirited landowner Anne (Suranne Jones) and the quieter but frequently exasperated Marian (Gemma Whelan) have for one another is obvious to see.

And this week, Marian aims to make life easier for Anne and her partner Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle), who has moved into Shibden, by trying to smooth things over with Ann's disapproving relatives.

I think Marian's just excited to have Ann Walker live at Shibden because nothing ever happens there! Marian really allows her sister Anne a lot of space.
