Steve and Leanne get terrible news about young son Oliver

Having been told that her son Oliver may have mitochondrial disease, heartbroken mum Leanne recently mused to Toyah that she didn’t know what would be worse – not knowing for sure, or getting a definitive answer.

She finds out this week when Oliver’s consultant confirms that Oliver does indeed have the illness, and reveals it’s incurable. The normally feisty Battersby is utterly broken, knowing she will lose her little lad well before his time.

When Leanne and baby father Steve are initially given the bad news, Leanne goes into denial.

‘She wants a second opinion,’ reveals Jane Danson, who plays her. ‘She won’t take no for an answer and wants to try a different hospital.
