Nolan sisters Linda, Denise and Anne are in high spirits as they join TV Times for a video interview from their Blackpool homes.
They’re not long back from filming a second series of Quest Red’s The Nolans Go Cruising – along with their siblings Maureen and Loose Women’s Coleen – which this time see the ladies who gave us pop classic I’m in the Mood for Dancing travel the coastline of the UK, culminating in their first performance all together in over 40 years!
Here, Linda, 62, Denise, 69, and Anne, 70, tell us about the 10-day trip, being compared to American reality superstars the Kardashians, and surviving cancer…
Why do you think the first series of The Nolans Go Cruising proved such a hit with viewers?
LINDA People don’t always see that show-business people are just like everyone else, so I think they were surprised. They’d come up to us and say, ‘You’re just like us!’ I think it’s nice for people to realise we’re all on the same level.
When we were initially asked to do the series, we thought, ‘Who’s going to watch it?’ So we were thrilled by the response. Out and about, people would come up to us and go, ‘We love the series, you’re better than the Kardashians!’
It must have been a lovely feeling getting a second series, right?
DENISE Actually, Coleen was very reticent about it, saying, ‘Why would I want to go round the British Isles when we went round the Mediterranean last time?’
But there were so many pluses. If you get the weather, the British Isles are beautiful; there’s nowhere like it for me. Plus, it was about spending time together.
