Helen george on the shocks in store as she returns to Call the Midwife and how love could be in the air for the super-stylish nurse…
This series of Call the Midwife hasn’t felt the same without nurse Trixie Franklin (Helen George) doing her medical rounds in her usual no-nonsense but caring fashion.
The fun-loving midwife had decided to stay in South Africa for a few more months to assist at the mission hospital where the nuns and midwives had all been helping out in the Christmas special.
Thankfully, this week sees the plucky nurse arrive back in Poplar and, as TV Times chats to Helen George, 32, we get the feeling that she’s missed Nonnatus House and the midwives and nuns just as much as fans have missed Trixie.
Welcome back! There have been lots of changes this series with the arrival of scary Sister Ursula [Harriet Walter] and Sister Mary Cynthia [Bryony Hannah] having a breakdown and being sent away for treatment. How does Trixie feel about returning?
She arrives with a tan and is excited to get back and see her friends – and get her roots done! But then she thinks, ‘Everything is different!’ She’s aghast about the changes and furious about the Cynthia situation. She can’t understand how her good friend has been sent away without being allowed constant communication and that Nonnatus House has lost track of where she has been placed for treatment, so she shouts at a few people!
Does Trixie have a new purpose back at Nonnatus House?
