CELEBRITIES SEEM TO HAVE IT ALL, BUT EVEN STARS LIKE JUSTIN BIEBER AND DEMI LOVATO HAVE THEIR OWN MENTAL HEALTH BATTLES. HERE ARE THEIR STORIES.
Angel Haze
Angel Haze isn’t afraid to confront her demons through her music. The Detroit native gets personal about being the victim of sexual abuse and the turmoil that followed: suicidal thoughts, self-hatred and an eating disorder. Emerging stronger than before, the 26-year-old rapper now has a major concern with the “epidemic” that is teenage depression, in reference to her fans who have written to her, and urges them to ask for help. “I got better because I got help and started to learn how to be happy, and I just want others to do the same.” she assured.
Suga (BTS)
Despite being part of K-pop’s hottest boy band, this BTS member has been battling depression stemming from feeling dissatisfied about his own body image, causing him to resort to unhealthy diets despite already being underweight. Mental health issues are still highly stigmatised in Korea, but Suga defied societal norms with his hard-hitting mixtape Agust D. Touching on topics surrounding depression and social anxiety, the rapper also shares about seeking psychological treatment on ‘The Last’, hinting at a time of personal growth as he takes a step towards recovery.
