Supporters of convicted baby killer Keli Lane are still standing by her, seven years after she was jailed

I'll Never Believe She Killed Baby Tegan'

The baby she still insists she didn’t murder would have turned 22 earlier this month, and if you believe Keli Lane, baby Tegan could still be alive and living with her father – a man police have not been able to find.

The former water polo star has changed dramatically since she was finally jailed in 2011, for 18 years, after a coronial inquest, several police investigations and a controversial court case for murdering newborn Tegan and lying under oath about the circumstances.

Perhaps one of the biggest ironies about Lane’s life behind bars is the time she spends on the phone each week to her other child, a teenage daughter who cannot be identified for legal reasons and who has a different surname.

SUPPORTERS SPEAK OUT

Seven years after she was found guilty of murdering her two-day old baby Tegan in 1996, the 43-year old was described as “a fantastic mum, a warrior for her kid” by closest supporters, including her boyfriend Patrick Cogan, who is still resolutely standing by her.

Her friends reveal to Woman’s Day Lane fights for every minute she can get in the communal phonebox so she can be the one to personally guide her teenager through the stresses of homework and exams.

“Being a mother is everything to Keli. She never stops thinking about her child, despite everything else she’s had to deal with in the slammer,” says one ally.
