Sama and Ghoema nominee Hanco returns with new offering Sugar Rush. The Pretoria-based 23-year-old, who released his debut album Echo in 2020, spoke to us about his new single and how he’s made the switch from Afrikaans to English pop songs.
Congrats on the new single! Tell us, what is Sugar Rush about?
It’s about how love makes you feel you’re experiencing a sugar rush. But it can also be that too much of a good thing can be bad for you.
Where do you find inspiration?
All around me. One day on my way back from the studio I was trying to think what David Westmeijir [Netherlandsbased songwriter and producer] and I could write about. I saw a billboard on a truck or somewhere with the words “sugar rush” and I thought we should write about it.
