The Coronavirus And Kids

It's the illness that’s brought the whole world to a standstill: Covid-19.

This sickness is caused by a new kind of coronavirus, and people who get it often have symptoms such as a high fever, dry cough, and difficulty breathing.

At this stage, it looks as if children aren’t as badly affected by Covid-19 as older people. That doesn’t mean they can’t get it at all – it seems about two out of every 100 people diagnosed with Covid19 are children. But it appears their symptoms (the signs of the illness) are milder than adults’.

Why are children’s symptoms milder?

Because the virus is so new, scientists are still figuring out exactly how it works. To do that, they need time – and information.

By gathering each piece of information about how people react to the virus, they can form a better idea of why children aren’t as affected as adults.
