What Fashion On An Intergalactic Trip Might Look Like

There’s something to be said about timing. As Jeff Bezos takes his short (multi-million dollar) sojourn to space, one begins to think futuristic collections are, well, no longer about some farfetched alien-invasion-esque future, but very much our reality right now. It’s great then, that Nicolas Ghesquière, Creative Director at Louis Vuitton has done the work for us already. For the House’s Cruise 2022 collection, spacesuits get a new meaning. And the brand’s continuing obsession with the ‘great beyond’ looks to create a new ‘space colony’ as the world’s first commercial space flight takes off.

A BEFITTING VENUE

Nicolas is a serious lover of art: an affinity that comes through in most of his collaborations, the prints and artists he chooses to work with, the archives he dips into for inspiration, and the locations he chooses to present his vision for the future. For the Cruise 2022 line, Nicolas went for Axe Majeur—a 3.2 km urban landscape stretch designed by late Tel-Aviv-based Israeli environmental sculptor and artist, Dani Karavan, in partnership with Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, located in Cergy-Pontoise, just outside Paris. The project that started in the 1980s, took almost 30 years to complete.
