ULTRA GUCCI
Adding a new sneaker silhouette into Gucci’s roster, the Ultrapace sneaker made its debut on the brand’s Fall/Winter ‘19 runway and immediately piqued the crowd’s interest. Alessandro Michele drew inspiration from classic running shoes, dressed them in rich details paired with juxtaposing elements and put 1980s-inspired finishing touches to the Ultrapace. The mixed materials and contrasting details will catch any sneakerhead’s attention – tri-colour rubber outsole, terry cloth lining, and a shoe body composed of different combinations of materials such as leather, suede, and metallic leather. Michele also took note of adding details to shoutout a distinct Gucci aesthetic, which includes a vintage-style Gucci label attached to the tongue of the shoe, interlocking “GG” on the lace holder, and an embroidered “GUCCI”. For Fall/Winter ‘19, there is also a mid-top Ultrapace in the same style as the original version but with the extra detail of a velcro strap running across the vamp with the word “MiD”. The Ultrapace sneakers advance Michele’s Gucci codes by combining vintage and modern elements into his designs and incorporating fashion with function in a thoroughly contemporary way.
