Our conclusion: Research into these health benefits is inconclusive and contradictory. While charcoal can whiten teeth, a growing body of dental professionals say its abrasiveness seriously damages teeth enamel. However, it is used as a safe and effective treatment in hospitals to treat poisonings and overdoses due to its natural properties, and it is effective for water filtration, with studies showing it can lessen heavy metals and fluoride.
