HAPPY MOM-ENTINE'S DAY

Love is in the air but when you are a single mom, Valentine’s Day can be incredibly irritating.

To begin with, you have to endure all the media hype focused on romantic love and all its saccharine expectations; cards, heart-shaped candy, flowers, and fancy dinner merchants all powered up to accommodate lovebirds. The extra pressure by friends to find 'someone special because you just can't be all alone on Valentine's. Oh, and let's not forget about Karen who just has to show you all the romantic messages, gifts and tell you about the special day Tom planned all for her.

It is almost impossible to ignore this holiday and it becomes another one of those awkward days-like Father’s Day—that a single mom just has to get through.

Here are tips to help you honor the power of love and have a happy Valentine’s Day.

MAKE IT ABOUT YOUR CHILD.

The central theme of Valentine’s Day is ‘love’, and nowhere is it specified that it must be romantic love. You may not have a romantic partner, but as a parent, you have one of the greatest versions of love. Make it a time to celebrate your children and the amazing family you are building. Cook a meal together, or order their favorite take out, add some fun and do a bake-off challenge. Throw in a few surprises; set the table, light the candles and celebrate the unconditional love between you. Have a fun day at the water park or the zoo, whatever they fancy. Or go on a Mommy and me date with the tot.

DON’T FORGET THE PARENTS
