Danielle DuBoise and Whitney Tingle have cooked up a lot together—the meal service Sakara Life, a cookbook and a podcast. They also got pregnant at the same time. The friends and business partners tell Avanti Dalal about their holistic approach

After trying every get-thin-quick strategy in the book—raw-food cleanses, punishing crash diets, exhausting sweat lodges and draining detoxes—Danielle DuBoise and Whitney Tingle knew they needed to heal themselves with a more mindful and balanced food philosophy if they wanted to genuinely feel better. By 2011, they found their answer in Sakara Life, a food delivery service that offers nutritious, plant-based meals to clients that have included Gwyneth Paltrow and Lily Aldridge. A weekly menu combines “nutrigenomics, which focuses on how food interacts with our genes and, in turn, how we respond to food, along with a focus on what our microbiome needs to thrive,” says DuBoise. There’s no no-list, just a whole lot of yesses that you wouldn’t normally look out for, like adzuki beans, blue pea butterfly rice and chayote squash.
