There is always room for Patek Philippe in any respectable watch magazine, but not every Patek Philippe watch is created equal or receives equal coverage. The Patek Philippe Twenty~4, for example, is a tremendously popular watch – and one with an undeniably cool name – but it receives criminally scanty notices from the press. This year would actually not seem a likely candidate to spawn an issue that would make space for the Twenty~4, what with the WOW team in Singapore completely obsessed with the Watch Art Grand Exhibition happening locally. Fortunately, WOW Thailand rode to the rescue, as it frequently does, by putting the Patek Philippe Twenty~4 on its cover. Happily then, WOW Jewellery gives us the chance to give this watch its due.
Established in 1839, Patek Philippe was likely in the business of making and providing fine timepieces to male and female clientele alike. Ladies’ watches by Patek Philippe are produced with the same care and skills as those for gentlemen; there have never been separate standards for men’s and ladies’ watches at the Geneva manufacture. Indeed, Patek Philippe applies the same standards to its top-shelf watches as it does to watches on the most easily accessible shelves, to push that analogy a little. There will be more on the matter of overall quality and value in a moment but for now we have to return to the historical importance of women’s watches at Patek Philippe.
