Alcobev industry growth key to packaging growth
Ambrosia|November 2019
Innovation and new packaging trends could dictate the growth of the alcobev packaging industry. A look at the global alcobev and Indian packaging scene with new trends likely to influence the market.
Alcobev industry growth key to packaging growth

The global alcoholic beverage packaging market size was estimated at USD 60.34 billion in 2018 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of 4.8% from 2019 to 2025. Rising demand for premium alcoholic beverages including craft beer is expected to promote the market growth. Rising popularity of shim drinks is also said to have a positive impact on the market growth over the forecast period.

The whiskey-dominated alcoholic beverages market in India comprises locally-made Indian liquor (IMIL), Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), wine, beer, and imported alcohol. For many years, large brands like ABD ’ Officer’s Choice, United Spirits’ McDowell’s, Pernod Ricard’s Imperial Blue, and Royal Stag. United Breweries’ Kingfisher, among others, have enjoyed huge market shares. Today, the demand for alcoholic beverages is rising in India. The country’s large young-population base, rising disposable income, and the urbanisation of Tier II and III cities are fuelling the demand and contributing to the growth. Also, changes in attitude and lifestyle have made alcohol consumption more acceptable and in vogue. Based on these growth factors, Goldstein Research has projected that the alcoholic beverages market in India is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.4% between 2016 and 2024 and reach $39.7 billion.

Advent of new and attractive packaging solutions in alcoholic drinks packaging, such as bag-in-box, ceramic glass bottles, bag-intube, and whiskey pouches, is also projected to support market growth. Moreover, extensive R&D to introduce biodegradable and sustainable packaging materials due to rising environmental concerns will fuel market development.
