I appreciate I’m not likely to see these birds in my garden; the most exotic I’ve currently got is a single reed bunting. But I can always dream! Perhaps I should plant a white berried rowan? Margaret Oakley, via email
Wendy says: No copyright infringement here: the framed picture looks amazing, Margaret. You may be lucky to spot a waxwing this winter. They are most often seen in eastern and northern Britain. In years when many of them arrive, they’ll travel further south as they deplete the berry crops and often visit the garden when it’s really chilly.
Watching nature during lockdown
MY name is Jamie Lorimer and I am Professor of Environmental Geography at the University of Oxford. I conduct research into human-environment relations at a range of scales. I am currently working on a project exploring how peoples’ relationships with wildlife in their gardens have changed during lockdown.
I am working with two research assistants and we have developed a survey. Would any of your readers be interested in assisting in our anonymous data collection?
