Advertised as the 'world's first anti-ageing restaurant', Clenergy Kitchen was conceptualized from a desire to a extend indulgent low-carb meals to a wider market. Husband а and wife Abdulla and Tasneem Miya opened the doors to their restaurant in December 2019 in the lively locale of Greenside, Johannesburg.
I've been following a low-carb, sugar-free diet for just more than 20 years now,' Abdulla says. 'It started during my mid- to late-twenties, when I noticed I wasn't feeling as energized or healthy as I did during my younger years. I had general health tests done and everything seemed to be normal, but something didn't feel right. I started doing research about eating according to your blood type, and that's when I landed on cutting out carbs and sugar from my diet. Things changed dramatically. And I've never looked back.'
Tasneem adopted the lifestyle too and quickly began to reap the benefits in her own life. The couple enjoyed cooking delicious meals together and even began to advise friends and family on how to incorporate healthier eating practices into their lives.
‘But what I found is that when we went out to a restaurant, the options were always limited to what I could remove from a dish to suit my preferences,' Abdulla says. 'It started to feel like we were being difficult customers. And that's where the idea for Clenergy was born.
The Clenergy Kitchen menu features burgers and milkshakes, among others.
