After losing both parents by the time she was a teen, Kirsten Jackson turned to running and creating art for comfort. She’s now the force behind sellout shows around the world, but the 49-year-old Melburnian’s first love will always be lacing up her runners: she’s aced 19 marathons and holds an Aussie record for relays in her age group. Here, this fitspo powerhouse shares what she’s learnt along the way.
Be thankful for your body
“I used to get really angry with my body because I always wanted to be a faster runner. Now I look back and think, ‘Why wasn’t I happy?’ There are people out there who can’t run, and I can and my body’s been amazing. I normally run between 80 and 100km every week. It’s not hard for me to be motivated; I love to run more than anything. I ran my first marathon when I was 18 and won my age group. It was amazing – the best feeling in the whole world. I couldn’t really walk [afterwards but] I went out dancing all night.”
