My Signature Look
Women's Health South Africa|December 2018

Everybody has that one detail that defines who they are: can you imagine Janelle Monáe without her pompadour hairstyle? Or Cara Delevingne without those fierce brows? Or even Gwen Stefani without that sultry red lip she rocks on and off the stage? Although we live by radical transformations, we’re just as inspired by women who can stand firm in their signature styles. We asked very different women to share their defining looks. Whether it’s one product or 10, the takeaway is inspiring

I LOVE

Highlighting

“If I don’t accentuate those high surfaces on my face, it feels very flat. I need to highlight because the contrast gives my face dimension and heightens my complexion, otherwise it looks dull. It also helps me look more radiant and just gives a sharper look. Besides highlighter, the second thing I feel completes my face are lashes. To the point where I could go out with just lashes, a good brow and some highlighter – not even foundation. Those three elements just complete a look for me. Provided that you have good skin – having good skin and taking care of it is vital.

I cannot begin to tell you how much power make-up has. I grew up in a household full of make-up and magazines – my mother has been a makeup artist for over 30 years. I’ve watched her transform some people not only physically, but also with the feeling they get when they look at their face after getting their makeup done. I have seen what make-up can do for one’s self-esteem. It’s a seemingly superficial thing, but it has the power to change someone’s perspective of themselves – positively.” Lerato Seuoe, 30, beauty editor
