Suzi started dyeing yarn in 2013 because she couldn’t find what she wanted in the shops. Eventually, she started selling at craft fairs so she could make money to buy more wool, and in 2015 Folkestone Harbour Yarn was born.
COLOURS FROM THE PAST
Suzi takes inspiration from all areas. ”I’m interested in the history of pigments, so try to recreate tones used by old artists: for example, Mountain Green is taken from the colour painters like Da Vinci used to show distance in the landscape, and Giverny is a speckled colourway taken from Monet’s paintings. I love music too so have colourways inspired by artists like X-Ray Spex with my The Day the World turned Day-Glo yarn and Jeff Buckley with Lilac Wine yarn.”
