I don’t want to mess this up…it’s not very often that, as a writer, I encounter people with as clear thinking as my own. And as much as I fell in love with the man himself, it was his office-cum-studio that felt so much like home that held my heart. Without taking away from the emotion, I’d like to show you around in the words of The Wedding Filmer, Vishal Punjabi, himself….
“My first office was in my home. And home for me has always been Ghana. And in Ghana, the homes are open – there’s a separate courtyard, everything’s very green, there are lots of creepers around and it’s all very tropical and rainforest-y.
“Keeping this idea in mind and the fact that I always wanted to work out of home, I wanted an office that would make me and everyone I worked with feel comfortable. And the work that we do is also like that – I need my clients to be totally at ease. When we go to meet them, it’s usually at their home. When they come to meet me, I prefer them to feel ‘at home’.
“What we basically do is make home videos. So the word “home” is very significant to what we do. The office was created with that exact thought in mind. Creating a kitchen as the central point of the office also comes from there – food is the critical point in any home. Getting served coffee at work the way you have it at home…and as my mum says, ‘To make good films, you need to have good food.’ And so we made sure that everybody who works here is well fed.
