Moving out of your parent's home as a singleton is the ultimate declaration of M independence, especially in Singapore, where living space is always at a premium. Ingrid Liew, a 33-year-old IT professional, did it six years ago. She rented for two years before looking to buy a private property. "You're at the mercy of the landlord when you are renting. I had to move twice in those two years because the owners decided to sell the property," she shares. "So after I did my sums, I decided to buy my own home."
The mesh overhead cabinets lends lightness and allows Ingrid to quickly find the things she needs.
Ingrid had always wanted to live in the central area. After searching for a while, she found her dream bachelorette pad in a one-bedroom condominium apartment at the heart of Tanjong Pagar. Located in one of the CBD area's tallest residential towers, the apartment had been in its original developer-bought condition when she bought it. "The interior had a lot of marble and white cabinetry, which the previous owner took good care of, but I found it cold. It wasn't my style," Ingrid recalls. "I wanted something more me - modern industrial chic, like a New York loft."
