Plant these two climbers for colour and fragrance in spring.
English honeysuckle and a ‘Crépuscule’ climbing rose arethe perfect companions. They can even be planted in the same hole alongside a wall, pergola or fence to cover the surface in tandem. These two climbers both bloom in spring, providing an abundance of flowers in complementary shades. As a bonus, the honeysuckle is highly fragrant while the ‘Crépuscule’ rose has a delicate sweet scent.
Did you know?
Crépuscule is the French word for twilight – an appropriate name for this rose as the colour of its blooms are reminiscent of a sunset. It was cultivated in 1904 by Francis Dubreuil and is still a popular choice for gardens today.
‘Crépuscule’ climbing rose
This beautiful climber bears an abundance of soft apricot coloured flowers and is at its peak in spring and early summer. Thereafter, it blooms at regular intervals throughout summer and well into autumn. The flowers have an old-world charm and are sweetly fragrant. ‘Crépuscule’ flowers best in full sun but will also tolerate light shade. Plant it in compost-rich soil that drains well. ‘Crépuscule’ can be grown as a large shrub or climbing rose.
