‘Being Creative Boosted Our Budget'

Neena and Bob Findlay revamped their home on a shoestring with some hardcore bargain hunting and DIY design features

Neena and Bob Findlay’s Victorian terrace is proof that creating a mid-century, Nordic feel to your home can be achieved on a budget. When the couple moved in 10 years ago with their baby son Ed, they stripped floors, updated the kitchen and bathroom and painted every room white, creating a perfect monotone backdrop for Neena’s Scandi-inspired furniture and accessories. ‘I’d say my style is a mix of Scandi, mid-century and bohemian – and always maximal,’ says Neena. ‘I can’t do minimal as whenever I see an empty space I always immediately start thinking about all the things that I could put there! It’s so hard to achieve that classic minimal look without it looking bare or stark. Plus, Victorian houses, with all their nooks and crannies, are made to be filled!’
