After a wintry two hour drive, we arrived at the impressive Farnham Estate, up a long winding drive past golf course and woods. What a welcome sight it was, the fine old building with surrounding modern spa complex and sweeping grounds in front. The entrance hall itself is huge and yet welcoming, a blend of old and new, with guests chatting in armchairs and strolling by to the spa or the raised bar behind. Within the glass, the atrium is the original house entrance pillars, through which are the splendid old drawing room and other reception rooms. How lovely it is to be able to use these rooms during your stay.
As it was, we didn’t leave Farnham for our entire weekend. Is that terrible? The Cavan countryside has so much to offer but we felt that our needs were so well looked after at Farnham that we didn’t want to leave it.
