Jeny and Clarke opt for a simplistic styled Christmas in their quaint self-build tucked away in Antrim town.
Jeny and Clarke’s home is such a pleasant surprise, tucked away on the riverside in rural Antrim, they are a mere stone’s throw away from the town but they could easily be deep in the Scandinavian woods and not appear out of place. From first entry onto their property, it is filled with charm at every turn and it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into this home over the years.
‘We have been in this home for over 30 years,’ says Jeny. ‘Being from the area, when this spot of land became available I just knew I had to snap it up.’ Jeny set out to create a home to suit them and took on the entire design herself. Being in a conservation area, they had to remain sympathetic to the surroundings and opted for a Georgian theme that would sit nestled into the landscape with modesty. Jeny’s creativity flows through the property, with everything from the chopped wood stored deliberately to be both functional and have aesthetic appeal too.
Inside the home we are greeted with wonderful quirkiness in a true Scandinavian styled fashion, with elegant touches of Christmas feathered around the home. ‘The living room and kitchen were originally two separate rooms, but we recently took down the wall to create an open-plan space,’ she explains. ‘It was quite a tricky job to do, and we had to take the original fireplace out so that we could have a steel support beam installed. We just thought that the space would function really well as an open-plan room and we love the space as it is now.
